Some of our vendor programs require Two Factor Authentication to be set up. This is an added security layer to protect you, the information in your account, and the Association as a whole. Most of these programs will give you several options to receive a code to log in. This can either be provided by a phone call, text message, or an Authenticator App. These codes are occasionally time based (typically changing every 30 seconds) so you will need to promptly enter it once it is received.
The text message and phone call options are pretty straight forward. You will either receive a phone call telling you what the code is or a text message that contains the code.
The Authenticator App option is a bit different but it might be the easiest to use provided you have data or internet access. This is an app that can be downloaded that displays the code you will need to enter for the program (Examples are Google Authenticator and Microsoft Authenticator). It refreshes on its own every 30 seconds and will have some sort of indicator of how much time is left for the code currently displayed. Once you download this app, you will need to sync it with the program that is requiring the Two Factor Authentication. This is usually done by scanning a QR code provided by the program, but instructions will be provided when setting this up.
One thing to remember is that if there is an option to remember your device for a specified time frame, this is usually stored as cookies or cached data. If you clear your cookies or cache, you might be asked to enter the code again before the time frame up.
Troubleshooting for Flexmls:
1. I am not receiving the Text Message.
- Double check with Staff to make sure the correct phone number was entered.
- Ensure that the number that Flex is sending the code from is not blocked on your device. The phone number is 701-205-0861.
- If you are still experiencing issues, you may need to contact your mobile services provider (i.e. AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, etc.)
2. Which Authenticator App should I use?
- There is not a specific Authenticator App that is required so that is up to your preference. There are many free options as well as paid options.
